Dry Season (November - April): This is the most popular season to visit, especially Playa del Carmen. With temperatures averaging around 24°C (75°F), it offers ideal weather for enjoying all the outdoor activities the region has to offer.
Rainy Season (May - October): Although it is the rainy season, with temperatures averaging 27°C (82°F), many tourists find this time of year charming. The months of July through September are quieter, with intermittent tropical rains, fewer crowds and more affordable rates.
Fall and Winter (September - March): This is an excellent time for those who prefer sargassum-free beaches. Thanks to the north winds, you will enjoy clean beaches and a serene atmosphere.

This area is extremely welcoming to tourists, and all the local restaurants are prepared to offer a wide variety of options to suit all types of diets and food preferences.

Also, in Akumal, every Wednesday and Saturday, you can visit a charming farmers' market where you will find a great selection of fresh, local fruits and vegetables. It is a great opportunity to experience the local flavors and high quality produce.

For your comfort and safety, at Stela Luxury Home we will provide you with bottles of purified water for drinking, cooking and daily use, including brushing your teeth. It is important that you drink this water instead of tap water to ensure your well-being.

Is it better to pay in dollars or pesos in the Riviera Maya?

US dollars are accepted almost everywhere in the Riviera Maya, so it is possible to get by without exchanging money.
However, since the official currency in the Riviera Maya is the Mexican peso (MXN), you will usually save money if you pay in pesos.
Basically, if you are not worried about losing a few dollars here and there with the exchange rate, it is possible to use US dollars for the entire trip.
But if you want to get the best value for your money, it's better to pay in Mexican pesos. And while credit cards are accepted in many places, you will still need cash to pay for cabs, tips, souvenirs and smaller purchases.

Are credit cards accepted in the Riviera Maya?

Yes, credit cards are widely accepted in the Riviera Maya and you can use them at most restaurants, large retail stores, hotels and beach clubs.

Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted credit cards, whilst American Express and Discover are less widely accepted.
We would also recommend using a credit card instead of a debit card when possible, as there are usually fewer fees and the protection benefits are much better.

And while many places accept credit cards, it's still a good idea to have some cash on hand to pay for transportation, tips and smaller purchases. For example, some smaller restaurants and taquerias in Playa del Carmen will only accept cash.

Can you request Uber in Riviera Maya?

No, Uber is currently not available in the area. While legislation was recently passed allowing Uber to operate in the state of Quintana Roo, opposition from local cab drivers has made it difficult to use Uber in the region. So, if you should  take local taxis  in the Riviera Maya; you should be sure to have cash on hand, because credit cards are not accepted for taxi fares.

If you want to purchase groceries during your stay at Stela Luxury Home, you'll be pleased to know that there are several convenient options nearby. In nearby Akumal Pueblo, you'll find a GO MART convenience store at the gas station, along with other small local stores offering a variety of staples.

If you are willing to explore a little further, we recommend visiting Playa del Carmen, which is on the way to Akumal from the airport. There, you will find a wide selection of domestic and imported goods at reasonable prices. Major retailers such as Sam's, Wal-Mart and major Mexican supermarkets are present in Playa del Carmen.

Our recommended retailer is Soriana which is known for its excellent selection of fresh produce, meats, imported cheeses, as well as a wide range of beers, wines, liquors and staples. In addition, they have an extensive pharmacy department, clothing and many other essential items.

Nearer by, just 10 minutes away in Puerto Aventuras, you will find a Chedraui retailer, which has just about everything you may need during your stay.
